At the Vancouver Institute of Public Speaking and Debate, our classes help children build confidence, improve communication skills, and enhance their ability to persuade and inspire others. Our expert coaches will help students learn to express their ideas clearly and effectively through vocal techniques and body language, helping them become more comfortable and confident in any setting.

Our Advantage

IMPACT Speaking Program

Our special IMPACT Speaking program is designed to set students at any level on a path to professional-level public speaking. No matter the age or skill level, our expert coaches can prepare your child for the next step on their public speaking journey. 

The IMPACT Speaking Program uses Trinity College credentials as a benchmark for communication skills. Beginner speakers will learn how to speak with confidence and certainty. Intermediate speakers, at Gr. 5-8, will learn more advanced speaking techniques and have the opportunity to compete in local public speaking events. Advanced speakers will master public speaking and have the opportunity to compete in events hosted by prestigious universities. 

Skill Levels and Class Times

Our Classes

Which class your child should enroll in will depend on their current grade and speaking skills. Below, we set out the goals we aim to progress towards in each class. If your child’s skill levels exceed the goals listed, consider enrolling them a higher difficulty. 

Beginner
  • Speech Structure — Understand and implement a simple structure (introduction, body, conclusion) in their speeches
  • Voice — Speak clearly and at an appropriate pace to ensure they are easily understood.
  • Audience — Avoid looking away and make eye contact with the audience to engage with them
  • Comfort — Start to overcome common initial public speaking anxiety

  • Speech Structure — Develop speeches with a more complex structure, including subpoints and smooth transitions between ideas.
  • Voice — Use varied pitch, tone, and volume as appropriate for the speech
  • Audience — Connect with different parts of the audience and start to incorporate nonverbal communication
  • Comfort — Become comfortable with public speaking, start speaking from a memorized basic structure
